WHO WE ARE
Chado Urasenke Tankokai Portland Wakai Association is our official name in association with Urasenke Foundation of Kyoto, Japan. Wakai Tea Association is a not-for-profit organization with the State of Oregon. The Japanese word “Wakai” is translated to a group of harmony.
OUR MISSION
We are dedicated to fostering and dispersing the four basic principles of Chado: Harmony (Wa), Respect (Kei), Purity (Sei) and Tranquility (Jaku). Our mission is to uphold the tradition of Tea through maintaining certification by Urasenke Foundation of Kyoto, to further the study of Chado, to support the teachers, and to initiate participation in cultural activities within and beyond
this organization.
